About Joan

My Story

My career in medicine started with the intention of seeing the whole of each person and helping them achieve greater health and wellness. For over 30 years as a family doctor, I have been following this intention. Although in recent years this intention has not changed, the nature of my work has.

With a long time curiosity for the science of the mind and an urge to meditate, I tried meditating on my own. Floundering and feeling confused with thoughts of “am I doing this right?” “this is so hard” and “ how do I keep going?” I heard about the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. I immediately signed up for a training session. Ever since that first day of the program I have been practicing mindfulness and never looked back. My curiosity has become my passion and a way of life.

The natural progression of my own mindfulness practice led me to the Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program. Founding Learn, Grow, Heal Mindfulness allows me to focus on sharing these practices with others.

My life today is filled with many blessings, curiosities, joys and meaningful connections. In addition to practicing and sharing self-compassion and mindfulness, I enjoy spending time in nature, being active, connecting with family and friends and creative pursuits.

My Approach

I offer a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space that supports you in learning the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion. Sessions are individual and offered virtually. We start wherever you are and work from there. As you begin to practice mindfulness and self-compassion, personal growth naturally happens and over time, comes healing.

I firmly believe in the power of mindfulness and self-compassion for greater understanding of ourselves and others. Being human is hard and at times messy. I have found an open heart and greater awareness are key to living and loving well. And it takes practice. Please get in touch. I look forward to meeting you.
